For planning growth, the future is now
Abstract:
It was no accident that the Capital Region and Tech Valley -- the term promoters use to describe eastern New York state from the lower Hudson Valley to the Canadian border -- went after nanotechnology.
"Nanotechnology, nanoelectronics ... was the one we felt we could get the most traction from while putting in the least amount of resources," Hill said.
That's because the Hudson Valley already is home to IBM Corp., while Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy and the University at Albany also had growing programs in nanotechnology.
UAlbany's Nano College, headed by Alain Kaloyeros, is now a world leader in the field, Hill said.
