Blowout in cost of medical gadgets prompts review
Abstract:
THE surging cost of medical technology and rising demand for it from the ageing population will be a centrepiece of the second intergenerational report to be released next month by the Treasurer, Peter Costello.
But on the horizon are more revolutionary advances in medical technology - including tiny implants developed through nanotechnology to fight cancer and heart disease, and gene therapy - which are expected to transform treatment, but at huge cost.
