UK looks east for healthcare
Abstract:
Indian medical-technology companies have also queued up for exporting equipment in UK. "At least 60 small and medium units, including IT companies, have shown interest in arterial surgery, in-vitro diagnostics, surgical instruments and software development. We are interested in developing relations with IT companies of West Bengal," said Dr Sandeep Shah, member of the delegation from UK. The delegation is looking for partners in India for joint venture or collaborative programmes in fields like nanotechnology and genetics. "We are looking for partners to set up integrated genetic centers in India. It will have to invest Rs 17,160 lakh (20 million pounds) over five years," said Dr Rob Elles of UK Genetics. Representing Association of Hospitals in Eastern India, CEO of Woodland Hospitals, Sumedha Sen, said: "Private sector can share parts of secondary and tertiary healthcare opportunities. Efforts of the state government in this direction is not enough."
