Abstract:
The Innovation Society, http://www.innovationsgesellschaft.ch/index_en.htm a Swiss based nanoconsulting firm and TÜV SÜD http://www.tuev-sued.de/home_en (Munich, Germany), a globally leading technology- and certification company (sales > 1.1 bn Euro; >11`000 employees) have developed CENARIOS®, the worldwide first certifiable nanospecific risk management and monitoring system. It provides "State-of-the Art" hazard and risk assessment, integrated risk-monitoring- and customerspecifc Issue-management and communication tools. The system is currently implemented by the first industry company Buhler PARTEC,
http://www.buhlergroup.com/20182EN.htm?grp=60&org=70_75&nav=80_20_45&lang=EN&land=&morg= and will be operative by summer 2007.
Safer processes and products along the entire supply chain: The system was developed in 2006 in cooperation with industry in order to meet the particular safety requirements of companies which are producing or handling nanomaterials. As nanotechnology is a powerful enabling technology it will affect most industries which are handling nanomaterials. CENARIOS® can therefore be applied in all these "nanorelated" industry sectors as e.g. textiles, cosmetic, energy, packaging, food, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive and electronics industry. It is relevant to research laboratories and - as the number of nanoproducts and materials in consumer products is increasing rapidly in retail and wholesale companies which are selling nanoproducts. The certificate is intended to improve the safety standards of processes and products over the entire supply chain.
More safety - more value: The system is audited and certified according to a criteria based quality and safety standard process. The certificate is awarded by an independent certifcation authority of TÜV SÜD and will be renewed periodically. The certificate testifies a "State-of-the-Art" safety level standard for the risk-management processes. It also witnesses a company's commitment to process and product safety and its engagement in protection of human health and environment and workplace safety. It therefore serves as a powerful element of confidence building towards customers, authorities, investors, insurance industry and the public.
The system was presented at PIRA`s. Nanotechnology conference at 8th February in Washington D.C to industry and business companies, governmental authorities and research organisations.
