Home > Press > UK Trade & Investment putting British nanotechnology on the global stage at Nano Tech 2007 21- 23 February
Abstract:
For the third consecutive year, UK Trade & Investment is supporting leading UK nanotechnology organisations at nano tech 2007, the world's leading nanotechnology event. Taking place in Tokyo this week, the event, featuring a Pavilion, will showcase UK expertise and the many trade and investment opportunities the UK offers.
The UK Pavilion, supported by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), gathers together nanotechnology companies and research institutes from across the UK. UKTI expects the event will match UK nanotechnology organisations with potential business partners, customers and investors.
In all, fifteen organisations will be represented at the event, including the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN), whose stand will display the centre's new facilities, including clean rooms and specialist labs. It will also feature its two new spin-out companies, Endomagnetics and the Bio-Nano Centre.
Endomagnetics has recently started testing its first product, the SentiMAG(TM) in a hospital environment. This is a handheld probe that assists surgeons by providing them with a quicker and safer process of finding out if breast cancer has spread. It acts as a hand-help MRI probe (magnetic resonance imaging) that is capable of detecting magnetic field variations inside a patient's body that are as small as a millionth of the Earth's own magnetic field.
Other UK organisations travelling to Tokyo include Team AVNP, a consortium of six groups that is developing a material that could help protect against viral infection such as SARS or ‘bird-flu'. It uses a nano-particle technology that could be incorporated into products such as face masks and protective clothing.
Ilika Technologies Ltd will also be attending, showcasing their high throughput and combinatorial techniques.
Nanoco Technologies Ltd, a leading nanotechnology company developing and producing fluorescent semi-conducting materials known as quantum dots, is just one company already exporting to Japan and is looking to grow its' client base at nano tech 2007.
Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive, UK Trade & Investment said:
"The UK nanotechnology industry is truly world-class and the fifteen organisations on the Pavilion' are leaders in this enabling technology. Global interest in UK nanotech companies is growing and nanotech 2007 will provide a platform for UK companies to consolidate links with the Japanese market. With support such as that provided by UK Trade & Investment, MNT Network and the Regional Development Agencies, there is no doubt that the UK will continue to grow its world-class nanotech capabilities."
