India: Cabinet to consider fiscal sops for high-tech products

Abstract:
The Cabinet is likely to take up the IT ministry's proposal to extend fiscal incentives to other high-tech products such as LCD, organic light emitting diodes (OLED), plasma panel displays, storage devices and solar cells under the fab (fabrication) policy at its meeting scheduled for Thursday. The draft note for revision of the policy has sought the extension of the fiscal incentive package for the semiconductor industry to other hardware activities to make India a hi-tech hardware hub.

The note has also favoured fiscal benefits for development of nanotechnology and other IT products along with semiconductors and a review of the hi-tech sector to make the list exhaustive to include existing and developing IT products.
