Abstract:
Technology-business interface has been added to the NGC2007 conference program to assist developers in understanding both the opportunities and the complexities associated with moving technology innovations from the lab to the marketplace. To learn more about the exciting scientific and business program of Nano & Giga Forum in Arizona and its unique networking and social program, read the last meeting newsletter at the conference web site:
http://asdn.net/ngc2007/newsletters.shtml
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM: All abstracts submitted by the deadline (November 1st) have been processed and reviewed. All accepted abstracts (invited, contributed oral and poster presentations) appear at the following web page:
http://asdn.net/cgi-bin/ngc2007/reviewers/abstract-reviewed
Abstracts accepted for poster presentation are also displayed on the following page:
http://asdn.net/cgi-bin/ngc2007/reviewers/abstract-posters
Abstracts are listed alphabetically by the name of the registered authors. These two web pages provide a temporary display of the abstracts to inform the authors about the status of their future presentations and will be replaced by the meeting program when it is ready (in approximately two weeks). If you have any questions regarding your abstract or need a confirmation letter for visa and/or funding applications, please contact Dr. Erica Forzani
BUSINESS PROGRAM: Technology-business interface (business section) has been added to the conference program to assist developers in understanding both the opportunities and the complexities associated with moving technology innovations from the lab to the marketplace. Business sessions will run in parallel with science sessions and will include keynote lectures and panels. Topics will include commercial tools for nanotechnology research, market intelligence, new investment models, government policy and societal impacts. An incomplete list of the speakers at the business sessions is available at the following web page:

CONFERNCE PROCEEDINGS will be published as special issues of Solid State Electronics (nanoelectronics and photonics) and Nanotechnology (molecular and bioelectronics). For distinction between nanoelectronics (e.g. nanoCMOS) and molecular electronics, we use the fabrication approach, such as top-down (film deposition and lithography) vs. bottom-up (molecular self-assembly). Some papers may fit into both special issues. Tutorial lectures will be published by Springer in its new book series "Lecture Notes on Nanotechnology." Only original research papers not published previously elsewhere will be considered for inclusion in the special Issues of Solid State Electronics and Nanotechnology journals. All papers will be refereed according to the usual standard of quality for the journals. Your early notification of the intent to submit a paper would be highly appreciated. For further details, please visit the following web page:
http://www.asdn.net/ngc2007/proceedings.shtml
The links to the publications of the previous Nano & Giga forums are available from the following web page:
http://www.asdn.net/ngc2007/publications.shtml
Note: Springer has recently published the book "Nanotechnology for Electronic Materials and Devices" (Eds. A. Korkin, E.Gusev, J. Labanowski and S. Luryi) - lecture notes of the NGC2004 meeting in Krakow. The book is now available in internet book stores.
AWARDS: Applications for conference scholarships for US students, originated from an NSF grant, have been completed, reviewed and the awardees have been notified. However, the organizers have received additional sponsorship from DARPA designated for US students (fourteen individual scholarships). The deadline for applications is January 12th. Eligible US students are encouraged to apply. For further details and applications, please visit the following web page:
http://www.asdn.net/ngc2007/awards.shtml
PROFESSIONAL AND SOCIAL NETWORKING is now available for registered participants at the conference web site via our new internet networking club:
http://asdn.net/cgi-bin/ngc2007/networking_club/nc_start
Submission of proposals and initial message exchange allows an anonymous communication to secure comfort of privacy in selecting the right partners. We anticipate that our new internet networking tool will help our participants enhance networking during the conference by establishing initial contacts for potential scientific and business collaboration and social networking prior to the meeting. Although we have tested our new web communication program, we anticipate some programming and logistical imperfections may remain in the code and in the interface. We would appreciate your suggestions and critical comments on this new communication tool.
SOCIAL PROGRAM: The conference reception will take place Wednesday night in the fresh air at the small square near the ASU Art Museum. Food, drinks and entertainment are included in the conference fee. All participants and registered guests are welcome to join the meeting reception. A Conference Night Club will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights for networking, dining and entertainment from 7 pm to 10 pm, hosted by the ASU University Club. Tickets (~$15-$20) will be sold at the registration desk and will include food and entertainment. The bar will be open for individual purchases of alcoholic beverages. For further details, updates and if you need any advice with your travel plans, please contact our social program coordinator, Ms. Janna Lorenzen and visit our "social program" web page:
http://asdn.net/ngc2007/social.shtml
REGISTRATION AND CONFENCE FEES: At this time we accept registration without presentation by sponsors, businessmen, reporters, students, exhibitors, conference organizers, observers and guests. Our current conference fee is $400 for regular participants, $200 for full times students and $100 for accompanied persons. Although the late conference fee payment can be paid at the registration desk, we would appreciate you considering an early rather than last minute payment. This will provide us better options to secure more services for participants at lower costs from our service providers. For security reasons, the account number for wire transfer and access to the internet gate for credit card payment is provided by individual request. For further details, please, visit the following web page:

TRAVEL PLANNING: We'd like to remind you that early planning will help to make your trip to Arizona more productive, pleasant and less expensive. Also keep in mind that Arizona is a very popular tourist destination in early spring because of the very good weather combined with a great number and variety of natural wonders and attractions. Metropolitan Phoenix, the fastest growing city in the USA, also offers a broad variety of options for recreation and entertainment. Closer to the meeting we will provide some links to the events which will take place in Phoenix during the week of the meeting. For those who plan extra days for vacation, there are a large number of options in Arizona and in its neighboring states, including popular places which can be reached within 5-8 hours by car such as San Diego and Los Angeles in California, Las Vegas and Death Valley in Nevada, Brice and Zion Canyons in Utah and the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The low costs of car rental, inexpensive motels, great roads and relatively inexpensive (compared to Europe) gas make travel in the United States easy and pleasant.
Thank you for joining us at the NGC2007 meeting. We look forward to seeing you in Arizona!
