The 16th of November will start the Nanochallenge 2006 three day long Final Contest Event. The final step of the competition will be held inside the Archivio Antico, a room of the ancient Bo Palace, the historical site of the University of Padova, from 16th to 18 th November.
Nanochallenge is the first international business plan competition organized in Europe for nanotechnology based ideas. The success of the first edition led to a rapid spreading of the competition knowledge among academic and entrepreneurial researchers, as well as universities and research centres. Veneto Nanotech, in the attempt of furthering its objectives of attracting the best scientific talents and of creating new entrepreneurship in the nanotech sector in the Veneto Region, has decided to organize the second edition of Nanochallenge with the renewed grand prize of 300.000 ¤ set aside by Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo.
The thirteen teams that have been selected for the Final Phase of Nanochallenge 2006 in the last month have been supported by Veneto Nanotech and PriceWaterhouse Coopers in writing their business plans. They will be presenting their business ideas to start e new venture in the local territory during the upcoming three days. Their technological and business projetcs will be evaluated by an international jury made up of renowed people of the academical and financial world. It will be composed by: Chris Anzalone - CEO Bennet Group; Renato Bozio - Professor of Chemistry Universitą di Padova; Pietro Busnardo - General Partner Innogest SGR; Anna Maria Fiorello - Responsible for Microelectronics and Fotonics Selex SI; Robert Jelski - Sector Partner 3I Investments; Emile Knystautas - Scientific Director at CIVEN; Andreas Leson - Vice Director Fraunhofer Institute Dresda; Pierluigi Paracchi - CEO Quantica SGR; Robert Paull - Managing Partner Lux Capital; Aymeric Sallin - Managing Partner Nanodimension; Roberto Siagri - President Eurotech SpA; Silvio Varagnolo - Partner PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
The event will start at 9.30 a.m. on Thursday, November 16th, inside the Archivio Antico, with the welcome speeches of Luigi Rossi Luciani, President of Veneto Nanotech, Vincenzo Milanesi, Chancellor of the University of Padova, Fabio Gava, regional Councillor for political economics, Peter Moran, Chief Technology Officer of Singular ID, winning team of the 2005 Nanochallenge.
On Thursday afternoon, starting at 2 p.m., each team will have ten minutes at disposal to present and explain its business in front of a vast audience of potential partners and investors. Contemporary, in the adjacent room, teams will be available for one-to-one meetings and talks in order to illustrate their products or technologies and to answer the questions of those people interested in going thoroughly into their project.
The day of Friday 17 November will be behind closed doors. Every team will be presenting in front of the jury giving more details on the technology and on the vision of their venture in a time slot of thirty minutes. At the end of the day the three Finalists will be announced.
The Grand Prize will be awarded at 12.30 on Saturday 18th November inside the Archivio Antico to the Team with the best technology and the most feasible business project. The press conference will follow.
