Abstract:
Innovation Center Denmark is excited to announce its participation in the International Congress of Nanotechnology 2006 taking place in San Francisco from October 30th to November 2nd.
Søren Nedergaard, Innovation Center Denmark's Technology and Research Attaché, will be joining a special panel of international representatives within the field of nanotechnology. The panel debate takes place on October 31 from 10:30 to 12:30 and will also feature participants from the US, Germany, Russia and Pakistan.
Søren Nedergaard's presentation focuses on the societal impact of the technology and will further discuss collaborative initiatives between the US and Denmark.
The need to promote research in nanotechnology was recognized by the Danish government at an early stage. As part of an overall governmental 'globalization strategy,' the technology was identified as a crucial factor to improve the competitiveness of Danish companies and create positive changes in the lives of the citizens within areas such as medicine, environment, and communication.
The Danish government is focusing on the interplay between high quality research at Danish universities and private cutting-edge companies using nanotechnology.
In 2001, The Danish Natural Science Research Council launched the first large-scale Danish action plan for nanotechnology. Since then, numerous funding programs have been established and nano-networks created. Acknowledging that nanotechnology carries risks, the Danish Ministry for Science, Technology and Innovation began a Technological Foresight project to map out the potentialities and concerns with regard to nanotechnology. The results clearly showed the growing need for investments in nanotechnology and stated that government initiatives should include studies on risk aspects and public perception of new technologies.
The International Congress of Nanotechnology is the annual forum for scientists and business executives from around the world. They will discuss various issues relating to the emerging industry such as capital investment, workforce training, standard development, environmental health and safety, and societal implications of nanotechnology. The event will feature advanced scientific, technological development and commercial applications in nanotechnology, including electronics, material science, chemical, semiconductor, automotive, textile, aerospace, biopharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
