Abstract:
Draft Study on Policies, Support Structures and Training Programmes that foster innovation in the Nanotechnology domain in Europe and India

EuroIndiaNet report online

Posted on October 05, 2006

This report describes the policies, support structures and training programmes in the EU and India, which have a direct impact on the advancement of nanotechnologies. It includes a comparative analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of each region in order to foster synergies and routes towards stronger collaboration between EU and Indian scientists. It contains a comprehensive list of academic and industrial organizations, networks and courses in India, and the areas of nanotechnology R&D that each is focusing on.

The EU and India have a long history of scientific cooperation that has recently been strengthened through a bilateral Science and Technology agreement in 2002 and a workshop in 2005, which identified areas in nanoscience and nanotechnology for cooperative research. The EuroIndiaNet project is the first FP6-funded project in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology to include Indian partners.

This report is part of the process towards developing a cross-border Technology Platform, the purpose of which is to ensure the longevity of cooperation between the EU and India in nanotechnologies and nanosciences. The project partners welcome feedback on the report's contents and a final report will be published in December 2006.

About EuroIndiaNet:
This FP6-funded project aims to promote innovation in nanotechnology through stronger collaboration between EU and Indian scientists and industrialists in the areas of nanosciences and nanotechnologies. It will do so by providing:

  • a comprehensive description of current policies, funding strategies, training programmes and support structures for nanotechnology R&D in India and the EU;
  • a report and online database describing key infrastructure and organizations in nanotechnology R&D;
  • a message forum for establishing and developing collaborations;
  • a where key stakeholders will determine routes to establishing stronger collaboration between EU and Indian scientists;
  • a strategy for the development of a cross-border Technology Platform encompassing research, industry and government.
