Quest by nanoscientists for an 'atomic switch'
Abstract:
... a team of government scientists has poked a speck of cobalt, prodding the atom to leap back and forth on the surface of a crystal. These microscopic gambols, scientists said, represent a major advance in the high-tech race to build an "atomic switch" to turn electrical signals on and off.
