ApNano Materials Receives Nano 50 Award for Nanotech-Based Solid Lubricant

New York, NY | Posted on August 10, 2006

ApNano Materials, Inc. (www.apnano.com), a provider of nanotechnology-based products, and its R&D subsidiary NanoMaterials, Ltd., today announced that NanoLub – the world’s first commercial nanotechnology-based solid lubricant has received Nanotech Briefs magazine's Nano 50 Award at the products category.

The Nano 50 Awards, presented by Nanotech Briefs® magazine, recognize the top 50 technologies, products, and innovators that have significantly impacted, or are expected to impact, the state of the art in nanotechnology. Nanotech Briefs is a digital monthly magazine from the publishers of NASA Tech Briefs that highlights engineering breakthroughs in nanotechnology and MEMS.

NanoLub is based on nano-spheres and nanotubes of inorganic compounds that were discovered at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. NanoLub particles have a unique structure of nanoparticles that lubricate by a special mechanism that can be explained by the combination of the rolling mechanism of millions of miniature ball bearings and the formation of an ultra thin transfer film between the surfaces to be lubricated. This combined mechanism achieves a unique phenomenon of "super lubricity." Dr. Menachem Genut, President and CEO of ApNano Materials, was a co- discoverer of these novel inorganic nanostructures as a member of the Institute’s Nanomaterials Synthesis Group headed by Professor Reshef Tenne.

“The winners of the Nano 50 awards are the best of the best – the innovative people and technologies that will continue to move nanotechnology to key mainstream markets,” said Linda L. Bell, publisher of Nanotech Briefs.

"We are proud that that NanoLub has been recognized by Nanotech Briefs magazine as one of the world's top nanotechnology-based products," said Dr. Menachem Genut, President and CEO of ApNano Materials. "NanoLub enhances the performance of moving parts, significantly reduces fuel consumption and contributes to environmental protection."

"NanoLub has attracted significant interest from industry around the world," said Aharon Feuerstein, co-Founder, Chairman and CFO of ApNano Materials. “The company's semi-industial facility in Israel will produce hundreds of kg per day of NanoLub towards the end of 2006, and will be followed by a full industrial production facility to produce tons of material per day."

“NanoLub has been shown in numerous independent tests worldwide to reduce friction and wear significantly better than conventional lubricants, especially under extreme conditions such as very high loads” said Dr. Niles Fleischer, Vice President of Business Development and Vice President of Product Development of ApNano Materials.

The Nano 50 awards will be presented at a special reception and awards dinner during NASA Tech Briefs National Nano Engineering Conference at the Boston Marriott Newton, November 9-10.
