Agilent Technologies' Tianwei Jing, Ph.D., Named Arizona Bioscience Executive of the Year

Palo Alto, CA | Posted on June 20, 2006

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that Tianwei Jing, Ph.D., research and development manager for its atomic force microscope business (formerly Molecular Imaging Corp.), has received the Arizona Bioscience Executive of the Year award from the Arizona BioIndustry Association. The ABA recognizes leadership by a bioscience company executive that most significantly advanced the bioindustry in Arizona in the previous year.

Dr. Jing co-founded Molecular Imaging Corp. in Tempe, Ariz., with Dr. Stuart Lindsay in 1993. A key member of the executive management team, Jing has been instrumental in the company's technical leadership and business success for more than 14 years. The firm grew to become a premier developer and manufacturer of SPMs, which are high-resolution imaging and measurement tools used in nanotechnology.

As Molecular Imaging's senior vice president for engineering, Dr. Jing led the company's research and development efforts from before its inception until present. He also has played a key role in managing the company's business strategy, including its acquisition by Agilent in November 2005.

Jing has authored more than 29 scientific publications and holds more than 16 patents for the scanning probe microscope. He has served as a faculty research associate at Arizona State University. Jing earned a doctorate in experimental condensed matter physics at Princeton, where he also served a postdoctoral fellowship in the physics department.

Awards, given in five categories, were presented at the ABA gala on May 31. Jon McGarity, president and CEO of the ABA, said, "Dr. Jing's long-term commitment and hands-on involvement with the company are excellent examples of leadership and vision. The ABA is privileged to recognize his success and outstanding contributions to the bioscience industry in Arizona and beyond."

McGarity said the award winners were nominated by their peers and selected from statewide nominees by an independent panel of judges.

The event was keynoted by the Honorable James C. Greenwood, president and CEO of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) in Washington, D.C. Greenwood spoke about the importance of biotechnology in providing better healthcare, enhanced agriculture, and a cleaner and safer environment. ABA serves as BIO's Arizona affiliate.
