Novel Nanotube Approach Leads to Significant Performance Improvement

Abstract:
A collaborative research effort between the University of Hawaii and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute demonstrates an unexplored yet big opportunity for CNTs in composites. The researchers use CNTs to influence and increase the 3D composite interlaminar properties, using unique reinforced laminae with carbon-nanotube forests grown on cloth fibers present in adjacent plies.
