Nanotechnology in Northern Europe 2006: Venture forum selects Amroy Europe as Best Venture

Posted on May 23, 2006

Amroy Europe (www.amroyinc.com ) has been named Best Venture at Nanotechnology in Northern Europe 2006’s Venture Forum event. Seven companies from across Europe pitched to a venture panel consisting of prominent figures such as Robert Jelski (3i), Juha Mikkola (Eqvitec), Steven Morrell (Teknoinvest), and Nicholas Hartley (the European Commission). The session took place as part of Nanotechnology in Northern Europe 2006, the region’s largest nanotechnology event.

In a lively panel discussion which preceded the company presentations, the investors set out the factors that they look for when making an investment. These included a product which was ready to take to market, strong intellectual property, a real customer need and an enthusiastic team.

The panel unanimously decided that Amroy Europe excelled in each of these areas. The company, which has a history of producing composite materials, has recently developed a carbon nanotube-based material called Hybtonite. The panel felt that the company had succeeded by not only demonstrating technological innovation, but in combining this with a business proposition which fit with the current manufacturing process of their customers.

Pasi Keinänen, COO of Amroy Europe, stated that “we are very glad to have received this recognition. We are an industrial company producing industrial products - we are still a small company, but we have strong growth prospects and an international customer base. At the moment 70% of our production is exported, to customers in Europe, the US, and Asia. Whilst we are best known for the use of Hybtonite in hockey sticks, this is far from being our largest application area. Our product has over 200 customers in a number of sectors which require composite materials. We are also committed to continuing the development of nanotech-enabled products, and have a number of other materials that we plan to take to market.”

Nanotechnology in Northern Europe takes place from 16th to 18th of May in Helsinki. Almost 500 researchers, industry representatives and investors gather to discuss the latest developments in the field of nanotechnology, ranging from nanoelectronics to the latest instruments and tools. Spinverse Consulting is the lead organiser of NTNE 2006.
