Dr. David Lemberg, Executive Producer of "Science and Society" announces the show schedule for Wednesday, 05/24/06, 1PM to 2PM Pacific.
Of particular interest to Nanotechnology Now readers are interviews with:
- Dr. Kevin Knight, Senior Research Scientist and Fellow, Information Sciences Institute, USC Viterbi School of Engineering
- Dr. Vincent Pieribone, co-author, “Aglow in the Dark,” and Associate Fellow, The John B. Pierce Laboratory
- Laura Militello, Senior Research Psychologist, University of Dayton Research Institute
Dr. Knight will discuss natural language processing, machine translation, and artificial intelligence — how to input text in one language (e.g., Chinese) and have the software output the text in another language (e.g., English). These methods are also useful in decoding algorithms and knowledge representation.
Dr. Pieribone will discuss his new book, “Aglow in the Dark,” and the applications of bioluminescence to military operations, forensic science, and possible interfaces between man and machine.
Ms. Militello will discuss collaboration, particularly in the context of command and control in both military and crisis management settings, cognitive task analysis, and man-machine interfaces.
