Checking up on nanotube behaviour
Abstract:
Researchers at Columbia University and Brookhaven National Laboratory, both in the US, have used electron diffraction and Rayleigh scattering spectroscopy to determine the properties of individual single-walled carbon nanotubes. By combining the two techniques to pinpoint the exact chirality and optical transition energies of the tubes, the team confirmed that nanotubes exhibit two behaviours predicted by the single-particle tight-binding model of electronic structure.
