Abstract:
New offering is expected to service customers in electronic measurement and bio-analytical measurement
Nanotechnology, with its potential to dramatically transform industries across the electronics, communications and life sciences sectors, is expected to usher in the next technology revolution. The quality and availability of custom precision optics and assemblies, both critical components in many tools used for nanotechnology research and development, is invaluable in the development and speed to market of nanotechnology applications. To facilitate that development, Agilent is opening its precision optics design and manufacturing capability, which has been in use for more than 35 years as an internal resource to external customers.
Agilent developed the ability to produce high-precision optical components and opto-mechanical assemblies at competitive costs to support its demanding laser interferometer business. This business provides very precise position or distance information for dimensional measurements or motion control applications. With the growing interest in nanotechnology, a number of customers approached Agilent for solutions to their unique optical needs. In response to these requests, Agilent is opening its internal optics capabilities to provide external customers precision components, optomechanical assemblies and customer design and manufacturing services.
Unlike optical design laboratories that outsource manufacturing, Agilent offers comprehensive and fully integrated services from initial concept through volume production for even the most complex assemblies. This enables Agilent to optimize across the delivery chain to lower costs, improve performance and simplify procedures. The result is faster turnaround, clear accountability at every step, and all the benefits of decades of process-driven, real-world manufacturing experience.
This new offering from Agilent is expected to service customers that cross the company's two chief areas of business -- electronic measurement and bio-analytical measurement -- both of which have nanotechnology application customers.
