Dr. David Lemberg
Host - Science and Society

San Diego, CA | Posted on April 10, 2006

Dr. David Lemberg, Executive Producer of "Science and Society" announces the show schedule for Wednesday, 04/12/06, 1PM to 2PM Pacific.

Of particular interest to Nanotechnology Now readers are interviews with:

  • Dr. Benoit Mandelbrot, Battelle Fellow, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and author of “The Fractal Geometry of Nature”
  • Carl Zimmer, Science Writer
  • Dr. Scott Huxtable, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Tech

Dr. Mandelbrot will discuss the effectiveness of fractals and fractal geometry in mathematics education, as well as emerging concepts in fractal geometry.

The New York Times Book Review calls Carl Zimmer “as fine a science essayist as we have.” Mr. Zimmer is the author of four books about science. His latest book, “Smithsonian Intimate Guide to Human Origins,” was published in November 2005 by Smithsonian Books. Mr. Zimmer will explore what makes us vertebrates, why the evolution of our vertebrate ancestors is important, and how vertebrate fins turned into legs.

Dr. Huxtable will discuss nanotechnology/nanoengineering in the classroom, recruiting underrepresented minority students in science and engineering, and thermal management of power electronics.
