Cosmetics and Nanotech: A Dangerous Connection?

Abstract:
Jack Uldrich: I just came across this article on my favorite – and arguably the best – nanotechnology website there is: Nanotechnology Now.

The article’s author, Bethany Halford, calls into question – in a fair and rational way – the safety of the nanoparticles being used in cosmetics. The gist of her argument is that “there’s just not enough information out there to make a good decision either way.” She goes on to quote Robert F. Curl, who shared, with Rick Smalley, the 1996 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for the co-discovery of fullerenes. Curl says, “I would take the conservative path of avoiding such cosmetics while withholding judgment on the actual merits or demerits of their use.”
