UO Senate debates military funding
Abstract:
Jim Hutchison, director of the University’s Material Science Institute, uses defense department funding for nanotechnology research. The military funds his research on ultra-small air conditioning units for soldiers to protect themselves against biological and chemical exposure, he said. Military funding also pays for his research on microscopic machines that could help clean the environment. “There should be a gray area. Everything that has to do with the military is not evil,” Hutchison said.
