Biotech and Nanotech hold promise for pulp and paper innovation

Abstract:
“The most exciting upstream prospects for research and development (R&D) has been the coming of modern biotechnology with regard to both growing trees and in adapting them to better meet our needs,” reports Sappi technology director Dr John Job.

“Downstream, the most exciting is the inclusion of new science into the creation of new surface properties, making paper compatible with nanotechnology – huge developments are available for application onto or with your paper,” he adds.
