Quantum dot is "too superficial"

Abstract:
Recently, a group of researchers at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, proposed and verified that the bond order loss of atoms at sites surrounding defects or at the surface skin of 2-3 atomic diameter thick takes the full responsibility for the size effect yet the core interior retains its bulk features. This leads to a bond-order-length-strength (BOLS) correlation theory.
