Polymer Nanogel Protects Cytotoxic Drug

Abstract:
Nucleoside analog triphosphates, compounds that can sabotage cell growth by blocking DNA replication, have been touted as promising anticancer agents. These compounds suffer from one major drawback, however – naturally occurring enzymes in the body quickly degrade them before they can reach tumors. In an attempt to solve this problem, investigators at the University of Nebraska Medical Center have turned to a novel polymer nanoparticle, and the results of their studies show that these nanoparticles not only protect the potential drug molecules but also transport them into cells.
