Nanotechnology to steam: Pizazz fires appliance sales
Abstract:
To invigorate a moribund market, appliance makers are counting on refrigerators that nurture vegetables, washers that remove odors with nanotechnology, and ovens that lower the fat and salt content of food.
The Hitachi Ltd. subsidiary says the nano-titanium catalyst filter can catch odor molecules that pass through a conventional catalyst filter. If users smell cigarette odor on their clothes, for example, they can eliminate it by running the clothes in the drum in the deodorizing mode without water for 10 minutes. Allergenic pollen can be also removed.
