Nanorods produce more heat than light
Abstract:
Nanoscale gold rods can act as 'bar heaters' that convert light efficiently into heat, researchers in Taiwan report1.
They have found that when the wavelength of the light comes into resonance with the excitation frequency of the nanorods, the temperature of the rods can rise to over 100 °C when the nanoparticles are irradiated with laser light at room temperature. Without the nanorods, heating by the laser is negligible under these conditions.
