ORNL scientist dreams of micro-medical wonders

Abstract:
Tuan Vo-Dinh dreams of a day when nano-sized robots will be turned loose in the bloodstream, zapping diseased cells with pinpoint lasers and repairing problems along the way.

He admits this sounds like some sort of "Fantastic Voyage," but the star scientist is used to seeing his dreams come true.

"You have to start from somewhere, and the nanobiosensor is that kind of direction," Vo-Dinh said during a recent interview at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
