UCD researcher develops nanowire technology

Abstract:
Professor Saiful Islam leaned forward in his seat as he described what he believes will spur the next industrial revolution, eagerly explaining every image and diagram of his research on nanotechnology. And he has reason to be optimistic.

... it all begins one nanowire at a time. These threadlike structures, invisible to the human eye, can be woven together in specific arrangements to carry out certain functions. Currently these functions are very simple, yet they support the hypothesis that soon such nanowires could be manipulated to achieve a multitude of tasks.
