It IS a Small World After All

Abstract:
Think small… very small. The future is bright for nanotechnology, but it certainly isn’t big. Nanotechnology seems to be the future of everything these days. From medicine to clothing to spaceflight, nanotechnology now infiltrates a multitude of research areas. And it is being applied in ways most would find difficult to comprehend.

Nanoscale materials will play a key role in the evolution of nanotechnology and its applications, such as the examples listed above. The bulk of the nanomaterials research to date focused on nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes. One relatively new class of nanomaterials expected to play an increasingly important role in nanotechnology is that of continuous nanofibers. And one man revolutionizing this class of materials is Dr. Yuris Dzenis, the Robert C. McBroom Professor of Engineering Mechanics at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
