Illinois' commerce director on business funding, growth
Abstract:
Q: About two years ago, there was a lot of talk about how the nation's nanotechnology center had not been established and that Chicago, and by extension Illinois, was jockeying to position itself as the nanotech capital. What is the status of that effort, and what can you do to encourage the development of biotech/nanotech research centers?
A: As far as nanotechnology, the NanoBusiness Alliance, is locating their headquarters in Chicago. We have some of the experts in the industry here in Chicago, Sean Murdock among others. Northwestern has a nanotechnology center, and they're also about to renew the grant they got from the federal government in the near future. You could say we're the capital for the country.
