Abstract:
Sean Murdock named a 2004 Small Times Magazine Best of Small Tech Advocate Award finalist
Sean Murdock, Executive Director of the NanoBusiness Alliance, today was named a finalist for the 2004 Small Times Magazine Best of Small Tech Advocate Award. The Small Times Best of Small Tech awards recognizes the best people, products and companies in nanotechnology and microsystems.
“I appreciate this recognition, which marks the second time in three years that the Executive Director of the NanoBusiness Alliance has been recognized in this manner,” said Murdock. “It’s a testament to the critical role that the Alliance and its members play in stewarding nanotechnology toward greater commercialization and market acceptance.”
Murdock has established himself as a global thought leader in nanotechnology commercialization and economic development. Prior to becoming Executive Director of the NanoBusiness Alliance, Murdock was the Executive Director and founding board member of AtomWorks, an enterprise dedicated to fostering nanotech’s development in the Midwest. With an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, Murdock also served for more than seven years in management consulting at McKinsey & Company, advising a number of Fortune 500 companies and developing some of the firm’s earliest perspectives on nanotechnology business opportunities.
“Small tech’s greatest need today is for business leaders who understand the technology and can think strategically,” said Steve Crosby, President and Publisher of Small Times Media. “Sean has been one of the foremost thinkers in nanotech and its business strategy implications for years. He put the Chicago nanotech sector on the map, and we are fortunate that he is bringing his vision and business acumen to the NanoBusiness Alliance.”
The recipients of the Small Times Magazine Best of Small Tech Awards, along with the finalists, were selected from nominations and applications submitted by companies and individuals. Small Times news staff and an industry panel of experts reviewed the candidates and selected one winner and four finalists in six categories, plus a lifetime achievement award. The panel considered accomplishments between September 1, 2003 and October 1, 2004. A complete list of winners and finalists can be found in the November/December issue of Small Times® Magazine and online at www.smalltimes.com.
