Inventor of the Dye Sensitized Solar Cell Joins Solaris Nanoscience’s Science Advisory Board

Providence, RI – November 11, 2004

Solaris Nanosciences, a new innovator in developing nanomaterials for products that harvest light for a variety of applications today announced that Dr. Michael Graetzel has joined the company's Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Graetzel, a chaired professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, is a pioneer investigator of nanomaterials, particularly in the area of renewable energy applications such as solar cells where he is credited with invention of dye sensitized solar cells or "Graetzel cells".

"I am pleased to be joining Solaris' Scientific Advisory Board," said Dr. Graetzel. "The field of nanotechnology is continuing to reach further into commercial products. Solaris' work in the application of nanomaterials as light harvesting antennas shows great potential for improving efficiencies of light energy conversion and making dye sensitized solar cells both technologically competitive and economically viable. I look forward to working closely with Solaris and the other members of the advisory board."

"We are honored to have Dr. Graetzel join our Scientific Advisory Board," said Solaris' CEO Dr. Nabil M. Lawandy. "The Scientific Advisory Board is comprised of world renowned scientists and engineers and Michael is widely recognized as a pioneer of new technologies in solar energy. Dr. Graetzel will be a key member of our team in commercializing our nanomaterials for solar energy applications."

DR. MICHAEL GRAETZEL

Dr. Michael Graetzel is a Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, where he leads the laboratory of Photonics and Interfaces. He is recognized as a pioneer in research of nano-materials where he discovered a new type of solar cell based on dye sensitized nanocrystalline oxide particles, which hold the promise of new and very low cost solar cells.

Dr. Graetzel holds a doctoral degree in Natural Science from the Technical University, Berlin, and has received honorary doctoral degrees from the Universities of Uppsala (1996) and Turin (2004) in recognition of his scientific achievements. He serves on the editorial board of several scientific journals, is a member of the New Swiss Chemical Society, and is an Honorary Member of the Société Vaudoise de Sciences Naturelles.

SOLARIS NANOSCIENCES CORPORATION
