Oregon Nanotech Leader Joins NanoBusiness Alliance’s Economic Development Committee

ONAMI’s Skip Rung to share Oregon’s story of hands-on experience in building a nanotech economy with Chicago conference goers

Portland, Ore., October 5, 2004

The Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute’s (ONAMI) executive director, Skip Rung, has been named as one of the inaugural members of the NanoBusiness Alliance’s Economic Development Committee announced today at the Nano Conference 2004 in Chicago. Rung will also participate in a panel session tied to the launch of the committee entitled, “Creating a Nano Economy in Your State or Region.” The conference runs from October 5 – 7 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place.

“My participation in the committee reflects growing recognition nationwide of ONAMI and the collaboration underway among Oregon’s state government, private industry, and university system that is creating a vibrant nanotech research and business center in the Pacific Northwest,” said Rung.

According to Rung, the NanoBusiness Alliance’s Economic Development Committee will seek to deal with a range of issues facing the emerging industry. At the top of the list will be responding to fears of risks posed by nanoscience and strategies for taking nanotech developments from the lab into the real world of business applications.
