Making it big in nanotech
Abstract:
Some say that nanotechnology profits are 10 years off. John C. Fan, CEO of nanoelectronics firm Kopin, begs to differ.
John C. Fan, CEO of nanoelectronics firm Kopin, was doing nanotech before it even had a name. Born in Shanghai and raised in Hong Kong, Mr. Fan earned his electrical engineering degree at the University of California Berkeley during the 60s, then headed east. After getting his master’s and Ph.D. in applied physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he worked at MIT’s Lincoln Lab for 12 years before co-founding Taunton, Massachusetts–based Kopin, which began manipulating materials at the molecular level – in other words, nanotechnology research – for military applications.
