Grant for scientist bolsters research
Abstract:
While creating blood vessels is (Jan) Stegemann's overall focus, a nanotechnology application of his research is what attracted the state's attention. Through collaborations with other faculty at RPI, Stegemann is developing tissue cells that can carry an electrical current.
Stegemann is combining the protein cologen with a carbon nanotube that is responsive to electro-magnetic impulses. Putting both together is seen as the foundation for creating tissue replacements for the heart, which operates on electro-magnetic charges.
