New UAF facility to produce microscopic 'machines'
Abstract:
Nicholas Colella likes to compare the future of nanotechnology to the time when he was a boy growing up in Pennsylvania, where steel provided the jobs. High school graduates were assured lifelong careers at the steel mills or in one of the many businesses that popped up during the economic good times. But when the mills closed, the economy never recovered. That's because communities didn't have a plan to move on, said Colella, the senior vice president of Tessera, a high-tech research firm based in San Jose, Calif.
