Scientists find merging fields as tiny technology grows up
Abstract:
Murat Okandan's world of clean, slick, high-tech computers and semiconductor fabrication machinery is slowly transforming into something new. Across town, Jeff Brinker's world of chemicals, beakers, glove boxes and low-tech centrifuges is doing the same. The merger - between the engineering-based science of microtechnology and the chemical and biology-based science of nanotechnology - is well worth it and will allow a host of new innovations, said Terry Michalske, director of Sandia's Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies.
