How to fight misinformation in two easy words: honesty, imagination
Abstract:
In April 2003, Tony Blair scribbled a note to Rebecca Willis and James Wilsdon. The British prime minister had just read a draft of “From Bio to Nano and Beyond: A Progressive Agenda for Technology, Risk and the Environment,” written by the pair of researchers for U.K. think tanks. The prime minister, still steaming from political controversy about the safety of childhood vaccinations, scrawled out his frustrations over his attempts to balance the desire for a well-informed public on one hand and his recent brow-wrinkling experiences with public misunderstanding of scientific information on the other.
