Longer Life, Less Disease on Horizon
Abstract:
“In the next 30 years, we’ll see an enormous extension of lifespan because we will eliminate many of the causes of death,” Dr. Leroy Hood told a standing-room-only audience at Biotech 2004 Wednesday. Nanotechnology, microfluidics and other advances will lead to advanced diagnostic instruments that analyze an individual’s genome. A doctor will “prick your finger” and run 10,000 measurements. Today, he said, “you’re lucky if they do 25 measurements.”
