Japanese university buys Itanium supercomputer
Abstract:
Developed for the university's Hirao Laboratory, the system will run on the Unix operating system. It consists of a cluster of 68 HP zx6000 workstations, each equipped with two Intel's Itanium 2 server processors. The supercomputer will be used to perform complex scientific and technical calculations especially in its study of electronic structure theory and molecular dynamics. In addition, the system will allow researchers to look into nano-materials and biomaterials, the firms said in a joint statement.
