Turning small tech into big biz

Abstract:
Illinois, long on research but short on growing research-based entrepreneurial companies, climbed to 6th on an annual ranking of the nation's top hot spots for developing small technologies. Illinois ranked 8th on Small Times magazine’s 2003 ranking of states that are developing a critical mass of companies involved in nanotechnology, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and microsystems.
