Evaporation leads to nanotube foams
Abstract:
Researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, US, have made two-dimensional cellular nanotube foams by evaporating a liquid from an array of multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The foams could have applications as shock-absorbent structural reinforcements and elastic membranes. “To make use of the outstanding properties of carbon nanotubes, it is important to devise techniques for assembling these nanoscale materials into macroscopic objects,” Ravi Kane told nanotechweb.org. “We have developed a simple method that provides exquisite control over nanotube assembly."
