Sematech awaits $40M grant
Abstract:
A much ballyhooed state economic development grant program has failed to provide cash so far, holding up new jobs and research in Austin. Promised months ago, $90 million - including $40 million in grants to International Sematech in Austin for a job-creating research center - remains in state coffers. The delay has caught participants by surprise. In Austin, it has slowed the creation of the Advanced Materials Research Center, a joint effort among semiconductor research consortium Sematech and several Texas universities, including the University of Texas.
