Nanotechnology in the forestry industry
Abstract:
The boreal forest or taiga that encircles the northern part of the globe is the world's largest single terrestrial ecosystem. It covers an area of more than 5 million square miles, almost 9% of the Earth’s surface. It also supplies the bulk of the world’s commercial softwood timber, mainly for the paper industry. Oddly enough, the Financial Times recently commented that although it is “a sign of desperation when investors have to turn to pulp and paper stocks in search of value…pulp and paper is definitely a sector to watch in 2004 - and may even offer a few positive surprises."
