Degrading nanoparticles
Abstract:
If nanomedicine is to be a viable way to treat disease, nanoparticles must be biodegradable, participants at the Nanotox 2004 interdisciplinary conference in Daresbury, United Kingdom, said last week. “Particles that, say, disappear within 1 to 2 weeks probably won't cause too many problems,” said Paul Borm of the Center of Expertise in Life Sciences, Hogeschool Zuyd. “The problems start when you use insoluble particles like carbon black, gold, and so on. We don't know where they end up, what they can absorb or what they can do."
