Quantum dots could be toxic to cells
Abstract:
Researchers from the University of California at San Diego, US, have investigated the toxicity of semiconductor quantum dots to cells. Under certain conditions, quantum dots with a core of cadmium selenide (CdSe) proved to be acutely toxic. “On one hand, quantum dots are great biological labels for long-term tracking of live cells in vitro,” Sangeeta Bhatia of the University of California at San Diego told nanotechweb.org.
