IBM top U.S. patent earner in 2003
Abstract:
IBM Corp. (Armonk, N.Y.) said it earned more U.S. patents in 2003 than any other company, making it the top patent earner for the eleventh year in a row. The 3,415 U.S. patents were the most ever granted to a company in a single year, exceeding 3,000 patents for the third year running. About 1,200 of IBM's patents were in the semiconductor field, including an improved silicon-on-insulator (SOI) isolation barrier, and a method for patterning self-assembled nanotechnology objects.
