Science that's sizzling
Abstract:
(see third story) Getting those little atoms to compute. FIELD: Quantum computing, an emerging realm in physics and information science RECENT MILESTONES: U-M researchers have built electrode structures that can confine individual atoms - a step in building a new computer architecture. THE YEAR AHEAD: This month, U-M physicist Chris Monroe's research team will begin testing the structures. Also this month, the team's recent observations of "entanglement," a phenomenon key to quantum computing, will appear in the journal Nature.
