Scientists told to think small
Abstract:
Imagine a newspaper transmitted to your home wirelessly, "printed" on a plastic sheet thin enough to roll up, cheap enough to throw away, on which pictures are not still images but video clips, maybe even with sound. Think of a tiny hydrogen fuel cell that could power a pocket Walkman or an MP3 music player for 50 days and cost less than today's batteries. Or what about a DVD able to hold not one, but 250 movies or a fabric with a coating two molecules thick that keeps you warm by drawing infra-red energy from light and is also capable of killing bacteria, or self-cleaning windows, or cars that don't catch dirt?
