ORNL - green light for a really fast connection
Abstract:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory has been awarded $4.5 million to design a high-speed computer network capable of carrying massive amounts of science data, the lab announced Monday. The prototype system, funded by the Department of Energy's Office of Science, will be called Science UltraNet. The network is expected to operate at 10 gigabits to 40 gigabits, which is about 200,000 to 800,000 times faster than the fastest dial-up connection of 56,000 bits per second, ORNL said.
